Sabal“ (?), jeweils unten rechts unleserlich signiert „J. Kafflacke“ (?); beide mit hellgrau textilbezogenen Galeriepassepartouts; beide in ebonisierten Holzrahmen mit silberfarbener Innenleiste, beide mit mehreren Bestoßungen; altersbedingte Gebrauchsspuren; nicht geöffnet; Maße der Bildausschnitte: ca. 9,5 x 15,5 cm bzw. ca. 10 x 14 cm; Rahmenmaße: ca. 17 x 24 cm; Gesamtgewicht: ca. 745 g.

Oil on canvas; “Vast lake landscape with sunlit sky” from 1962; expressively and partly abstractly painted landscape motif with strongly impasto application of paint; the waterside overgrown with reeds with an anchored boat in the foreground leads into the expansive view of the landscape, which dissolves into a diffuse horizon line and is only accentuated by a tower-like silhouette in the right half of the composition; the light of the sun, painted as a white impasto circle above the landscape to the right, inspired the artist to a vivid play of colours; presumably the vast, water-rich landscape of East Prussia, homeland of the artist born in Insterburg in 1920, later illustrator and co-founder of “Stern”, served as his inspiration here; signed and dated lower right “Radtke (19)62”; age-related signs of wear; baroque-style stucco frame in cream/gilt patina; not opened; painting dimensions: ca. 76.5 x 115 cm; frame dimensions: ca. 91 x 131 cm; weight: ca. 7.3 kg.
